pentatonic scale

A five-note scale with a particular combination of intervals. The major pentatonic scale can be derived from the major scale by omitting the fourth and seventh notes/degrees. The minor pentatonic scale can be derived from same set of notes, commencing on the sixth note/degree. (Major pentatonic: d r m s l d’, e.g. C D E G A C.
