Alternative Curriculum/Reporting Recognition
Schools who plan to implement a curriculum that is different to the P–10 Western Australian Curriculum and/or a different method of reporting student achievement, as outlined in the School Curriculum and Standards Authority’s Pre-primary to Year 10: Teaching, Assessing and Reporting Policy, must apply to the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority) to seek recognition.
The process for gaining recognition of an alternative curriculum and/or reporting on student achievement is outlined in the following document: The Process of Recognition.
Due to the review of the Foundation to Year 10 Australian Curriculum by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) that was undertaken in 2021 and endorsed by Education Ministers in April 2022, the Authority is currently adopting and adapting the endorsed Australian Curriculum Version 9 for the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline.
Given the phased implementation of the revisions to the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline, an extension has been granted to current approved schools (from 31 December 2024) for their Alternative Curriculum and/or Reporting on Student Achievement Recognition submissions (and those seeking Alternative Curriculum and/or Reporting on Student Achievement Recognition), as per the timeline outlined below:
- Submissions due 2025: P–10 English and P–10 Health and Physical Education.
- Submissions due 2026: P–10 Humanities and Social Sciences, P–10 Mathematics, P–10 Science and P–10 Technologies.
- Submissions due 2027: P–10 The Arts.
- Submissions due 2028: P–10 Languages.
The timeline for submissions in 2025 is outlined in the following document: Timeline for Recognition.
