Learning Area Organisation
The Western Australian Curriculum: Technologies comprises two distinct related subjects.
- Design and Technologies: students use design thinking skills and a range of technologies to generate and produce solutions for innovative and authentic needs. Students recognise the roles and responsibilities of people involved in Design and Technologies occupations.
- Digital Technologies: students use computational and design thinking skills with information systems to define, design and implement solutions.

The Technologies curriculum is written on the basis that all students will study both Technologies subjects from Pre-primary to the end of Year 8. Students must have the opportunity to study at least one of the four contexts for Design and Technologies each year.
In Years 9 and 10, the study of Technologies is optional.
For Design and Technologies, it is desirable that schools provide students with the opportunity to engage with all contexts across Pre-primary to Year 10.
