Nature of the assessment

Short in-class test

Purposes of the assessment

To assess students’ understanding of how the body responds to physical activity and ways that these responses can be measured

Stage in the Teaching sequence

End of a teaching cycle – summative assessment

Assessment task

The teacher gave the class a short test. Students were asked to:

  • describe how regular physical activity can improve flexibility, strength, balance and endurance
  • identify one simple test that can be used to measure each
  • describe one of the tests in more detail.

Using the information

After marking the test, the teacher gave students an opportunity to reflect on their test using the marking key to see what they needed to review to improve their understanding of how the body’s responses to physical activity can be measured.
